Research

Scientific discovery is a process of trial and error with both success and failure being instrumental in personal development.

Information Security

My research has primarily focused on behavioral information security, specifically internet deception, neutralization of security policy, information security training, and affective influence on information security behavior.

Databases

Given that the quantity of data stored is increasing due to decreased cost, analyzing these large quantities of data can prove daunting. I am beginning to delve in the world of BigData to understand how to more efficiently inform decisions.

Citations

Google Scholar Citations provides a simple way for keeping track of article citations. This identifies who is citing publications, graphs citations over time, and computes several citation metrics. Click here to see my citation metrics.

Teaching

An ideal teaching environment is one that fosters learning while maintaining respectful interactions. My teaching philosophy aligns with this statement.

BIA 253 Comments:

  • Dr. Ormond was an incredibly fair, understanding, and focused teacher. He was willing to help students succeed and feel comfortable with the course more than any teacher I've had at Creighton, but he did so without giving ground on his expectations from students. He possesses a wealth of knowledge about the content of the course and he covered lots of materially effectively and without greatly overwhelming students.
  • Dr. Ormond personally taught me such important and great information that it made me want to become a BIA major. Dr. Ormond is truly a great professor.
  • I loved your class. You kept us engaged and because of that it was never a hassle to attend class. This was by far my favorite class this semester. For it being your first time teaching here at Creighton, you did much better than other professors who have been here for years because I could tell you actually cared.
  • I learned so much!! I do not think I have actually learned so much from one class as this one. Our professor was amazing!! He taught me so much and it was my favorite class, even though I am not majoring in BIA.
  • Professor Ormond is there to answer any questions you have as well as having the overall goal of making sure that his students understand the material. I would indeed recommend this class to a friend because while it was a challenging experience, it was well worth the effort and satisfaction.
  • Dustin Ormond is very intelligent and he has many examples from his previous careers. He is able to explain things in a simple manner and still challenges his students.
  • I enjoyed this class very much...The environment of the class was outstanding. The laid back setting yet an interactive classroom really helped me to learn. The class was not easy nor was it irrelevant to real-world application. Simply put, this class out of all my classes this year fostered the best learning environment.
  • I am one of the least technologically skilled individuals, but this class restored my confidence in my ability to code, design, and utilize technology.
  • I really enjoyed this class. I thought he did a great job teaching something I knew nothing about and made the class fun with various activities. I also really enjoyed how he had surveys throughout the semester so he could adjust how he was teaching to us. Overall I thought he did an amazing job.
  • The teaching itself was very good and your enthusiasm made me want to do the work and reading for the class. One of the better business courses I took.
  • Very enthusiastic, very passionate for an early morning class. He was always very genuine and always helpful when students were struggling. Effectively used BlueLine, offered quick communication outside of class, and easy to come in for office hours.
  • Dr. Ormond is very passionate about BIA, he spends his time making sure that we understand the processes going forward instead of worrying about the grades we get. He also found ways for us to actively learn the process, instead of just a dry lecture.
  • I loved the class and I do not have a super high interest in BIA; however, now I am more interested in BIA and want to take more classes. This is consistent across the class; many individuals are switching their major to BIA after seeing how interesting it is because of the way Dustin Ormond presented the material.
  • Thanks for a great semester and you opened my eyes to what BIA is really about. A professor worth taking and suggesting to others. You've honestly convinced a lot of students to get excited for BIA and even consider it for a major or future career.
  • I know that I am not the greatest person when it comes to technology so I was skeptical of this course. However, with the instruction and the meaningful assignments, I feel as though I have learned a lot from this class. Also, the prof is pretty dope. He makes the class super enjoyable.
  • He definitely brought out the potential out of me that I'd never thought I had before. He kept class interesting and stimulated my mind to the point of considering BIA as a major to pursue.
  • This is one of the best instructors that I have had at Creighton University because he was able to use all principles that are required to teach a course and there was not one thing that he did not do in order to teach the material.
  • Professor Ormond truly felt passionate about the subject matter and organized the class in a way that made sense for teaching.
  • I would definitely recommend this course to a friend. The reason is that I learned something new in class every day. You made the experience enjoyable to the point that I was looking up information that we discussed in class. Even though I did not talk much during the semester, I was still intrigued because each day had discussions that were filled with excitement.
  • There needs to be more teachers like Dr. Ormond. He truly cares about his students, unlike other professors who want to see us fail and make it so hard only a few students can get A's. Best teacher and amazing guy. So humble and funny!
  • Great knowledge surrounding the topic and the ability to draw from resources to emphasize the significance of each topic. The class was well done. I loved it. I always say you can tell how good a teacher is if after the class you have a little part in you saying, hmm maybe I could do something like BIA as a career. A good teacher has so much enthusiasm about their class that he'll draw you in and you'll be left wanting more! Dr. Ormond did this so well!

BIA 354 Comments:

  • Great class! I have learned so much this semester, and it has really extended outside of the classroom. Although it is a database class, I learned a lot about web development and design because I applied what we learned to outside activities. Dr. Ormond sparked my interest in the technology sphere!
  • Easily one of the best classes taken so far at Creighton. Wants to see students learn, without putting too much stress on anyone or a single assignment. Fair grading system/scale that combines accuracy with completion and effort put in. Balanced workload with weekly assignments, and tests with a semester long project. Also doesn't deviate or make sudden changes in course plan without giving a warning. Keeps everything on track while stressing the importance of each section.
  • Ormond is by far the best professor I have had. Regardless of the course being taught, he has made learning fun and easy. He takes criticism very well and is always adjusting his courses to match the needs of the students. The material may not be the easiest to teach or learn, but he somehow finds a way to make it interesting and presents it in the best form for learning.
  • One of my favorite classes I have taken at Creighton. Teacher was great and could tell he cared about the success of his students. Learned a ton and will be able to apply it in the real world.
  • This was a unique class that peaked my curiosity and ignited a passion for business intelligence and analytics while challenging me academically. To find this in a class is extremely rare as it truly takes a special professor to do this. It is for these reasons that I would recommend this class to every student within the Heider College of Business. This course allows students to be challenged and develop skills necessary to be successful at Creighton and in the workforce after graduation.
  • Dr. Ormond did a good job of adjusting for what worked and didn't work throughout the semester. Making big changes in course midway through the semester helped the class's learning.
  • Professor Ormond does a great job of teaching content that is difficult in nature. It is easy to tell that he has implemented prior feedback from students. He works well with the students to ensure that content is mastered before moving on. This class was challenging but I really enjoyed the material and having Professor Ormond as a professor.
  • I have enjoyed every aspect of this class even though there was a lot of work. This course was more enjoyable than I originally expected and reaffirmed my choice to choose BIA as my second major. I feel that this class really balances the enjoyable aspect and the learning aspect, which is why I would recommend this course to others.
  • Dr. Ormond is an awesome professor. He is clearly passionate about BIA and teaching it to his students. His class is structured very well, with a well done and innovative approach to grading that encourages learning and risks. His assignments and exams (which are take home due to the inherent time consuming nature of coding) require practical skills and go beyond traditional methods of measuring progress by being tools that can actually help prepare students for working with databases in the real world. He is well prepared and ready to teach each class and it is easy to follow along with because of his very well done slides that he makes available to his students which end up being a fantastic resource on homework, exams, and for the group project that students work on throughout the semester. He also should be commended for making video lectures available for each topic covered in the course, which are very helpful to have on demand. Dr. Ormond is also obviously extremely knowledgeable about his field, having worked in industry prior to teaching and also doing significant learning on his own. He is able to answer the vast majority of questions students ask authoritatively and in way that is also understandable. Overall I have very much enjoyed Dr. Ormond's class and feel like I have a solid foundation in using SQL when I had no prior experience with it at all at the beginning of the semester. Dr. Ormond is also able to relate what is learned in class to real world situations or problems that make what could be dry or uninteresting material into something more exciting and relatable. I definitely would take Dr. Ormond again.
  • The first day of class was really nerve racking, as I had no experience in anything BIA related except for my intro course two semesters ago. When Dr. Ormond said all the things we would do, I thought for sure that I wouldn't be able to understand it and I would be far behind. I couldn't have been more wrong. Dr. Ormond does an excellent job of creating useful and easy to understand PowerPoints and class lectures. Each section was covered thoroughly, and the homework assignments helped to further my understanding. Dr. Ormond does a very good job at making himself available, especially through email, to all students for any questions in a friendly way. I'm really happy I took this course and I would encourage others to take it because it teaches diverse skills in a fun and easy way.
  • Dr. Ormond is amazing. He is an incredibly passionate about database and technology. He was incredibly helpful and driven with students. I couldn't believe how much time he put into working with students and to make a website to make his class better and very manageable.
  • Dr. Ormond's main strength is that he cares. He cares about the students, the subject, and our success. He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had and probably one of the best Creighton has to offer. Each class he engages all of us makes sure we can follow what he is trying to teach us. On top of that he provides very good powerpoints for us to go back through on our own time if we are lost. Each assignment, although some can be very difficult, helps us to learn perfectly. He is always available if we need help even when he is off campus he responds to email within an hour 99% of the time. I have had him now for two semesters and he is the reason I decided to add BIA as a major. He brightens my day whenever I see him inside or outside of class and always knows how to make things seem less stressful. I cannot say enough good things about him because it is unbelievable how good of a person and teacher he is. I know this because everyone I know who has had him as a teacher loves him and wants to take every class he teaches regardless of the subject because they want him as a teacher.
  • Dr. Ormond is really cool! He has designed his own website around student's needs. He listens to feedback and makes improvements throughout the semester. He has a passion for the subject and knows a lot. He is always willing to answer questions at all times of the day and night. He makes time for our busy schedules and really wants us to grasp the difficult concepts.
  • It is very apparent that Dr. Ormond is passionate about this class and his students. He really ensured that we were learning what was necessary to be able to complete the end of semester project.
  • Professor Ormond did his best to teach the content that was sometimes difficult for the class. He went back and explained student's questions when asked questions.
  • Dr. Ormond was EXTREMELY nice, easy to work with, and helpful! If you ever needed anything he was there to help. We also learned a lot, and you get to leave the course with an actual working database that you created! I really enjoyed this class!
  • Professor Ormond was one of my favorite professors this semester and I would love to take another class from him in the future. He is always willing to help students with anything they may need help on.
  • This class is a ton of work but I haven't learned as much in any course I've taken at Creighton. Professor is all about applying the content to a real project that looks cleaner than anything I've ever done before.
  • Great class! Great Professor! Dr. Ormond is very knowledgeable in his topic of teaching. He is always to looking to find ways to implement new ideas and teachings to his class. I always look forward to his class, knowing that his class will be full of challenges and new material that I never learned before.
  • I really appreciated all the time and effort Professor Ormond took with this course. He really took the time to get to know his students and also help them in any way that he could when they were struggling. I really enjoyed having him as a professor and definitely learned a great deal.
  • Professor Ormond was very organized, and you could tell he was always prepared with what he was going to teach in class. It was very nice to know that he was going to use your time efficiently.
  • Dr. Ormond makes it very apparent that he truly cares about each and every student and also about the course. He wants the best for each and everyone of us and it is shown in his dedication to his students and teaching. I believe Dr. Ormond has empowered me to want and work hard and take credit for the hard work I put in. I wish more teachers were like Dr. Ormond, because he is a stand up teacher who cares about each and every student both in and outside of class.
  • Dr. Ormond is definitely one of the best professors I've had at Creighton. He is extremely knowledgeable about BIA and, even better, he knows how to explain it to us. He knows how to fix every error we run into, but he does it in a way for us to learn. He's passionate about BIA and he's passionate about relaying that information to us students.
  • I liked that we could give you feedback and you are open to suggestions. Also thank you for having your door always open for when we have last minute questions. Replying fast to emails was very very helpful (most teachers take a while).
  • Dr. Ormond was a great professor who is very knowledgeable about the course material, but can explain it in a way that is helpful to learn. Some professors are too smart for their own good, but Dr. Ormond can relate concepts that are new to us students very well. While the material is very difficult, Dr. Ormond was able to help guide students through and made learning a priority.
  • This was my favorite course this semester even though it was very frustrating at times. I've enjoyed learning practical database skills and feel like the experience I gained from taking this class has equipped me with valuable information I can use in getting a job. One of the things I enjoyed most about taking this class is the learning environment and atmosphere of the class. My only regret is not spending the time to pick Dr. Ormond's brain more to learn material that wasn't taught in class. Overall it was a great class, great experience, and I would recommend this class to any person interested in majoring in BIA.
  • Dr. Ormond is very intelligent, when it comes to the course material. He is very patient and extremely helpful when students have problems with the material. He is a hilarious nerd, an extremely nice person, and very smart. He works great with the students, and makes the course challenging enough where we actually have to work hard to really comprehend the material (which is a good thing). He is always open to meeting with students outside of the classroom. I would highly recommend that you do whatever it takes to keep him at Creighton, because he is one of the best professors that I have ever had.
  • Take this class even if you are not a BIA major, trust me everything you learn here can be applied to other subject areas. Every lecture is hands on so you don't have to wait until you go back to your room to see what you don't understand. Great class and great professor.
  • Professor Ormond is very passionate about this topic and in making sure that each student understands how to do everything and why it is done.
  • Dr. Ormond is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and you can tell he has a passion for it and tries to bring that to his students.
  • Fantastic course. One of the best at Creighton, if not the best. He took material that is incredibly challenging and difficult and made it interesting and understandable. The course is challenging but not impossible, a lot is learned over the course.
  • Dustin Ormond is the best, he's like the Mormon Hulk though. Do what he tells you to do or he will get mad. Talk to him and he's a cool guy and can be your friend.
  • Dr. Ormond consistently brings significant passion to the classroom when delivering lectures or helping students with assignments, even at 8 a.m. on a Tuesday. He creates well thought-out assignments to help students learn, is almost constantly available via email to promptly answer questions, and fosters constructive dialogue with and between students in the classroom to aide learning experience.
  • You have on your hands here a man who clearly has achieved huge success in his life and is motivated to continue it in this his latest venture. I have seen no limit to how hard he will work for the success of his students, it has surpassed that of any teacher/mentor in my (admittedly short) memory. Dr. Ormond is someone that I consider a mentor in many ways, someone that I look up to, and someone whose class I would quickly take again if I could.
  • This course was very challenging, but at the same time fair. I felt that I really learned a lot and was pushed to succeed. Dr. Ormond is one of the best teachers I have had at Creighton from both an intellectual standpoint and teaching level. I am not very enthusiastic about the course topics, but Dr. Ormond brought great energy and made the class much more fun than it could've been.
  • One of the best professors I've had at Creighton. Dr. Ormond makes sure all his students understand what's going on and covers anything that they have questions about. He is very passionate and enthusiastic about the class and programming, which makes it a fun but engaging learning environment. I liked how he tied everything together we learned throughout the semester. Also, it was helpful that he gave examples after so much material taught in every class. Overall, Dr. Ormond is a personable professor who deeply cares about his students and wants them to learn throughout the semester.
  • Dr. Ormond was an amazing professor! He was very passionate about the subject matter and his enthusiasm shined through in the way he taught the class. He was very approachable, which made asking for help easy. And he clearly cared about his students and whether or not they were grasping the concepts. Not to mention, the course was well structured and he provided prompt feedback, regarding assignments, tests, and projects.
  • Dr. O is the homie. One of the best teachers at Creighton University. Takes a difficult course and teaches extremely well. He cares about the success of the student and the student's learning.
  • Dr. Ormond is a model professor and he is one of my favorite teachers that I've taken at Creighton.
  • I really enjoyed this class but more specifically Professor Ormond. He consistently pushed me and never told me an answer, but helped me figure it out on my own.
  • Dr. Ormond is one of the best teachers and definitely the most dedicated to improving that I have had at Creighton. I learned a lot and enjoyed coming to class.
  • I think this is the best course I have taken yet at Creighton. This was by far the most hands-on, most discussion/participation based, student-contribution oriented class I have had. Professor Ormond has extensive knowledge about the subject matter and has a really really clear way of conveying the information to students. He is very easy to contact, puts a TON of time into developing his own custom server so that students can update work and see results in real time and it is such an essential learning tool. I have no qualms about this course!
  • I really liked how he took a personal interest in all of his student's learning. He was very accessible to all of us and would answer emails in a timely manner as well as make arrangements with us if we could not come to his office hours. He is very good at leading students to the right answer without directly telling us, allowing us to learn. His grading was very fair because he allowed room for a lot of error in our homework and then would go over it with us in class to make sure that we had the correct answers and information for our tests. Overall, this was my favorite class this semester and I'm looking forward to taking his cybersecurity course my senior year.
  • I would recommend this course to a friend. While it is very challenging Dr. Ormond actually knows what he's talking about. He's a pretty cool guy as well.
  • Professor Ormond is the best BIA professor you can find!
  • I thoroughly enjoyed this course and would love the chance to take Prof. Ormond again. He is engaging, willing to work with the students to achieve a better class, and is great about addressing the honest feedback of the students. He even altered the syllabus in response to our feedback, which just shows how much he cares. One of the best courses I've taken at Creighton.
  • Dr. Ormond really cares about his students and really wants them to learn and he was always looking for feedback on how to improve.
  • Professor Ormond is so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter of the course that it made me want to work harder at it. This was a tough course but he was so willing to help each and every one of us on our assignments answering emails at all hours of the night.
  • I would recommend taking BIA 354 to a friend that is looking to be challenged. This was by far one of the most engaging courses I have taken at Creighton and I believe I learned more in the past few months than I have in many other classes combined. But that being said, it's not an easy course. You have to work to fully comprehend the skills and concepts, but Dr. Ormond is very helpful in making sure you get there. Dr. Ormond also does an incredible job of making sure that each student is putting in their part of the class and ensuring that they are learning/testing on their own and not with the help of others. He is also very accepting of students coming in for help even outside of office hours, which is something I am VERY grateful for. Overall, I would say that BIA 354 with Dr. Ormond is one of my favorite classes that I have taken at Creighton, and I would highly recommend a friend take it... if they can handle it. :)
  • There is a reason Dr. Ormond got Faculty Member of the Year.
  • My favorite BIA course to date. The information is practical and applicable. The course and the professor are fun and entertaining.
  • Creighton should do everything it can to keep Dr. Ormond. He is professional, smart, kind and organized. The skills I received from this course help me find a job for the summer. The flow of the course is manageable yet challenging, and he is the most responsive professor I have ever had.
  • I feel as if I have learned a lot from this course, and this knowledge will be very useful in the future. I am honestly kind of sad the course is ending, because I really enjoyed it and would like to continue learning about these topics. This was a wonderful course and you made such foreign material seem understandable and fun! You have been one of my favorite professors (honestly)! So thank you for a great semester, please continue teaching, because you are a wonderful professor.
  • Able to take very complex material and simplify and teach in a way that students could understand. Dr. Ormond was very quick to make modifications to the course based on student feedback. The course allowed students to excel, but also still struggle and make mistakes without feeling like their grade was in jeopardy.
  • Great professor, really excited about the subject matter, really cared about his students (knew all of our names), and I learned more in this class than I have in any other class during my time at Creighton.
  • Dr. Ormond has clearly achieved excellence in his field, and for that he will always be a valuable resource to the school. He is level-headed and clearly wants his students to understand the broader picture of the class's applications to the real world. He knows his stuff. Full stop.
  • Professor Ormond was very patient and when the class did not understand something he made sure to stop teaching new material until we understood what he was talking about beforehand. He also was always available for questions and was very eager to help all of his students succeed and gain knowledge in the subject matter.

  • Dr. Ormond is one of the best professors in the school and his passion for teaching truly shows. He was always available for us, challenged us, always responded to emails very quickly - overall absolutely fulfilling and amazing class! Would definitely recommend it to other students!!!
  • His passion for the subject was evident in his teaching style. He cares a lot about his students and actually wants us to learn the material so we can grow as individuals and students. He also has fun learning activities that helped me learn the information and see how the material was applicable in the real world.
  • Dr. Ormond is without question, one of the most passionate professors on this campus. He truly cares for his students and their learning. His communication with his students is excellent and constantly keeps himself available for problem solving. To be brief, Dr. Ormond is an amazing professor who provides a great deal of service to every one of his students.
  • Dr. O is one of the best professors at Creighton, and definitely the best that I have had in the BIA department. He shows a genuine interest in his students as well as does a fantastic job communicating the course topics in ways that are easy to understand and is very available to his students when they need help. He is an ideal professor here at Creighton and puts a lot of work into his job even when he is away from campus. He pours hours into projects, like his website, for his classes (even though he enjoys these tasks) and should really be recognized for his commitment to making his classes better.
  • Dr. Ormond is an exceptional professor and genuinely cares about his students and their learning. Not only does he make good use of class time, he is always available for students outside of class time and is one of the best professors at responding via email. The subject matter is extremely relevant right now and I am glad I took this class!
  • Professor Ormond is a great teacher. He is always relating what we are learning in class to real world examples. The homework assignments typically are reflective of what we learn in class. Professor Ormond is constantly updating his classes to fit the students each semester. This is honestly why he is one of the best BIA professors. He truly wants students to learn. Professor Ormond offers various course evaluations throughout the semester and does his best to alter the class to meet the needs of the students.
  • Dr. Ormond relates the classroom material to the real world, which is something few professors do but should. The material is up to date with the times in a world with growing cybersecurity issues. And the class is overall very intellectually stimulating.
  • Dr. Ormond is a great professor, he cares a LOT and puts his heart and soul into building and maintaining the course. He give his everything and you definitely see that from the student side, and it comes out in his teaching and knowledge of the course. He also encourages participation and creates a welcoming environment to participate.
  • Dr. Ormond values the opinions of those in his classes and is incredibly responsive to our feedback, which he seeks at several points throughout the semester. He also shows his passion for the topic and is very engaged and enthusiastic. He is an incredible teacher!
  • Dr. Ormond is awesome. My favorite professor. Goes out of his way to help his students. Really cares about the students. I honestly don't really like cybersecurity that much, but the way the Dr. Ormond teaches it made the course so enjoyable. He is so passionate about cybersecurity that it was so fun to come to class and listen to him lecture about something he is so passionate about. Sometimes I would be laughing in the back of the classroom because he just gets so animated and excited when he talks about certain topics that he loves. Thank you for everything, Dr. Ormond!

BIA 770 Comments:

  • Dr. Ormond provided a solid mixture of textbook instruction, software institution, and real-world application into an engaging application of Cybersecurity. The programs demonstrated provided a foundational functionality that I will continue to build upon in future endeavors. Additionally, the general knowledge provided throughout this course is tailored to ensure that I am strong manager within the IT-related fields for years to come.
  • Thank you so much for a great semester. Your kindness and concern for our development does not go unnoticed. I would recommend the course to friend.
  • Professor seemed to really understand the material and was able to present to us in a way that made learning easy.
  • I would recommend this class to a friend (I actually already have). I liked this class because it was interesting but also very practical for a digital world. Of all my classes in this program, this is the one that has most shaped my everyday decisions and thought processes, just because I'm so much more aware of safety risks on the internet
  • This was a tough, thought provoking course. If I took the course over next semester, I would absolutely learn new things. Phenomenal course with a matched instructor!
  • Professor Ormond was engaging, his course materials were superb and really helped the students to effectively learn the theory and apply the principles via tools and techniques in a practical hand-on environment. I have also heard many positive comments from other students who have taken his database courses. I believe he is a real asset to the University and the BIA program/curriculum. He was fair in his grading and always available for consultations and assistance when needed. I could tell he wanted me to learn and succeed in the course. I feel he was successful on both accounts.
  • Dr. Ormond clearly explained the topic. He would go the extra mile to make sure that every student is on board. He also replied to emails really quick, invited an amazing speaker, and made a 3 hour lecture go by fast.
  • Dr. Ormond cares about his students. He expects them to do the work he assigns, but it is never an unfair amount. It is manageable and also designed to help teach the concepts we go over in class.
  • Great learning experience and highly applicable to the work force. I would definitely recommend it to other students.
  • Through this class, I have been able to not only critique my own security measures on my own personal computer machines, but also at my work place where I used the knowledge from this class to propose several different computer security improvements.

  • Dustin Ormond replies to emails faster than any other professor I have ever had. He also built his own website that makes learning fast, easy and overall convenient. He also makes a 3 hour class go by fast with in class activities, jokes and breaks.
  • I am an avid reader. When I find a great book I never want it to end and there is always a sense of let down when it is over because I want it to continue. I feel the same about this class being over this week!
  • Dr. Ormond was an enthusiastic teacher who engaged the class. The homework was demanding, but I learned a great deal. Dr. Ormond was also very helpful. Always promptly responding to emails and being available for questions and help. He helped me a great deal with my project.
  • I took this course and professor on the recommendation of a friend and I must say she did not lead me wrong. I would recommend this course to a friend because it is a technical and hands on way to learn real actionable skills that can be translated to your job. It interacts with languages that are always in demand and very useful, SQL (and NoSQL), PHP, and a touch of HTML. I feel that I got a good deal out of this course and it wasn't a panic attack inducing level of stress.
  • Excellent program, challenged my mind and made me think of solutions I had not considered before. Professor Ormond is definitely about challenging his students while giving them the learning support and tools needed to be successful.
  • I enjoyed taking this course. Dr. Ormond's style of lecture, broken up by in-class exercises, was an effective way for me to learn the material. He demonstrated the subject's relevance and incorporated new developments in the field of database management into the class learning objectives.
  • For a course that could have been very dull and boring for people who where not as familiar with IT, Professor Ormond's enthusiasm for the topic really stood out and made the subject matter interesting.
  • Dr. Ormond was a fantastic teacher! He invested a lot of time into putting together training aids for the class students. I often reflected on these tutorials to help with the assignments that I was working on at the time.
  • I would definitely recommend this course to a friend!! I really learned a LOT, I liked Professor's Ormond style and enthusiasm, and the fact that he was always willing to help his students understand things better and solving questions outside of class. That was a huge thing for me! If Professor Ormond offers another class while I'm still in the program, I will take it without thinking it twice.
  • Dr Ormond is a great teacher. You can tell that he spends a substantial amount of time preparing. I feel it is this preparation which helped me learn so much. His database and how it is set up also was an effective way to practice what we learned.
  • Dr. Ormond put substantial effort into developing course material. His work behind the scenes is the course's principal strength.
  • Coming in to the course I had no experience in the subject matter, leaving the course I have gained a great amount of experience and knowledge on the subject and it is definitely correlated to the way the course was taught. Dr. Ormond does a great job with the structure of the course and building on each lesson each class session. He has great energy and a fast pace approach that challenges students. I really enjoyed the flow of the course and how it was taught.
  • Professor is very knowledgeable about the subject. Materials were explained so anyone could understand, even if they did not have an IT background.
  • I'm very happy I took this course, I learned a lot and got the opportunity to really challenge myself to learn something completely new, before this, I've never worked with coding. Dustin Ormond made it possible for me to do just that by creating a challenging informative learning experience. He was very prompt in his responses to my questions (and I definitely had some). I appreciate how quickly he graded the work, the comments he provided in grading, and his detailed working of the assignment answers. It helped me to see where improvements were needed and to understand where and why I went wrong (which is what I want from a course, opportunity to improve).
  • Excellent course taught by an excellent instructor passionate about teaching.
  • Dr. Ormond teaches in a very enthusiastic manner. Therefore, it motivated me to learn and participate. He explained things in a very clear and concise way, which defenitely helped me since I don't come from a BIA background.
  • Dustin Ormond is the best professor I have had the pleasure of having in my program. His knowledge, his teaching style, and his passion for learning has made a last impacting upon me as a student. I plan to take every class he teaches in the future.
  • Dr. Ormond is an expert in the field and has a clear passion for it. He is consistently helpful when questions arise. The course was well designed and executed to ensure students learn the material and are able to apply the knowledge outside of the classroom.
  • Dr. Ormond combined lecture, in-class activity, and homework that fostered cumulative reinforcement of learning. Additionally, he made available recorded lectures that enabled students to re-watch portions of the class material that they didn't necessarily grasp during the lecture. Dr. Ormond was always available to assist me when I needed help. His response time towards my inquiries was amazing when accounting for the size of his student population. When he provided help, I left with the impression that I was coached/mentored towards the solution (vice handed it). In a difficult subject such as this, understanding the subject is essential and far better than having a correct answer on the problem. Dr. Ormond always ensured that I understood the methods and techniques of the code and solution; his teaching style reflects this.
  • Great course, will be looking to take more classes with Dr. Ormond if possible.
  • Mr. Ormond was well organized and put together many different videos and reading materials for us to have at our disposal. These were very helpful when doing the assignments because you could go back and rewatch a video any number of times until you understand or if you are running into an issue to see where you are going wrong. He is a patient person who was very responsive via email. Overall a very good teacher.
  • Dr. Ormond is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. He has a great teaching style and he is very easy to understand. Great class!
  • Great class and awesome professor! It was my favorite class of the semester!
  • Dr. Ormond is without question the best professor I have had at Creighton. He is the only professor to create his own course material and not just link the students to random websites for instruction. His videos and PowerPoints were very thorough and he always provided ample background and amplifying information on the subjects we were learning. He always responded quickly to questions and issues. He gave more work than usual but it was easier to accomplish because of his outstanding teaching and availability. If given the chance, I would take any class offered by Dr. Ormond!
  • Great course. Very well presented by the professor. He is definitely committed to providing a positive online experience for the students.
  • Dr. Ormond was honestly one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. I LOVED THIS COURSE! I will look to take more courses with him in the future. I learned highly valuable SQL and PHP skills that I will use regularly in my job.
  • Dr. Ormond is the best professor I've had so far for master's classes. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would plan on taking more courses from him as a result.
  • Dr. Ormond was one of my better professors that I have had during my time at Creighton. He takes the time to work with his students and really make sure they understand what they are doing in the class. He is responsive to student requests and does so in a timely manner. Generally, there need to be more professors like him that will do the things required to ensure success of the students.

Personal

The things that bring true meaning into my life.

Family

Family helps make the good days better and the bad days less stressful. Despite the highs and lows of life, my wife has been my greatest fan who has always been there to support and encourage me. My children bring more joy than stress and enable me to experience childhood all over again. I can't help but smile when I come home and my family greets me with smiles, hugs, and kisses.

Gospel

My belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ has greatly influenced who I am today and has granted me the understanding of the true perspective of life. A quote by Dieter F. Uchtdorf sums it up nicely, "Diligently doing the things that matter most will lead us to the Savior of the world." In other words, anything that brings light is of God and anything that brings darkness is not. Check out my LDS blog.

Hobbies

Aside from work, I thoroughly enjoy participating in activities where I work up a little sweat by running, biking, hiking, rock climbing, playing ultimate frisbee, soccer, basketball, badminton, dodgeball, etc. I am very competitive (which can be good or bad) but such competitiveness has helped me run a 4:37 mile, a 9:51 2-mile, and a 15:37 5K. I also enjoy collecting board games and have over 100.

Inspirational Quote

We can respond to irritation with a smile instead of scowl, or by giving warm praise instead of icy indifference. By our being understanding instead of abrupt, others, in turn, may decide to hold on a little longer rather than to give way. Love, patience, and meekness can be just as contagious as rudeness and crudeness.
